Colon cleaning using the natural method is not a new remedy. It has been used for several centuries now and can be traced back to the Roman Empire. However, people lost enthusiasm in it and it was a forgotten culture until the start of the 19th century when it gained worldwide popularity again. In the 1930s, natural colon cleansing lost weight as most of the theories that backed the practice were challenged.

In recent times, especially in United States, a revival of the practice has been experienced. The process entails cleansing of the colon using natural agents such as enzymes and teas. So, is the process really necessary? Read on to learn more so that you may be able to make an informed decision.

There are basically two methods used for cleaning the colon. The first is through the use of products while the second is through colon irrigation. In the first option, you’ll be required to purchase some liquid or powdered supplements. Then, you’ll ingest them into the body through swallowing or via the rectum. Both ways help in expelling all contents of the colon. These products mainly include: Magnesium, enzymes, herbal teas and even enemas.

Colon irrigation, the second technique, is performed by a doctor by the use of a special machine. The first ever machine for natural colon cleansing was invented more than a century ago. Modifications have been done to the machine and now people can enjoy more comfortable procedures as a result. Pipes are inserted into the rectum. Water is then sucked and flushed out. The abdomen is massaged after the colon has been cleaned. These sessions usually last for a period of not more than an hour.

There are several theories behind this process. One of the most common is the autointoxication. Under this context, it is believed that meat that is not properly digested usually intoxicates the colon. This consequently poisons the blood. The toxins are believed to cause low energy levels, weight gain, headaches and fatigue.

So, what are the goals of colon cleansing? The ultimate goal is to rejuvenate the body. Other equally important goals include: Eliminating colon cancer, weight loss, enhanced immune system and improved mental health. Then again, there have been reported cases of side effects caused by natural colon cleansing. These include: Infection, bowel perforation, mineral imbalance, dehydration, cramps and vomiting. To improve overall colon health, it’s advisable to eat white meat while avoiding red meat. Eat whole grains and avoid alcohol as well.
