International courier services can be the best way to send packages abroad. It is important for people to keep in mind, however, that not all courier services offer the same type or standard of services. This can impact how convenient it is for both you and the recipient of the package, how quickly a package is received, and your budget. In order to get the most out of your delivery provider, make sure that your courier offers a handful – if not all – of these key features:

On-Time Guaranteed Delivery

Regardless of whether the package you’re sending overseas is a time-sensitive delivery or one that doesn’t hold as much importance, the international courier services you are considering using should be able to get the package to its final destination in the time frame advised. The most reputable companies will offer a complete refund of your shipping expenses if the package isn’t delivered on time.

Tracking and Delivery Confirmation

Most international courier services now automatically include tracking numbers with all packages that they send. These assigned numbers allow you to stay updated on your package’s whereabouts. It also allows for the company to advise you of when the package has been delivered.

Some couriers have online tracking services. All a customer needs to do is plug in their tracking number and they will immediately see where their package is being held. Others may offer email updates. Choose a courier that tracks packages in a way you feel confident and comfortable.

COD Options

Collect on Delivery is a popular way for people to send letters and packages internationally. Through this form of shipping and receiving, a sender is allowed to collect a certain amount of money from a receiver when a parcel is delivered.

  • Sending a COD Parcel: If provided, your courier will allow you to specify your COD amount. This may include the value of the item, the cost of the shipping, COD fees, and sale taxes. The sender is able to determine how payment will be received. The courier will then collect the payment from the recipient for you.

  • Receiving a COD Parcel: The amount specified by the sender is paid by the recipient by a pre-determined payment method (this may be cash, check, money order or through certified check). Once the payment is received, the courier will then provide the recipient with the parcel

Liability Coverage

Liability coverage should be automatically available up to a certain amount (such as up to $100USD) to cover any loss or damage to a parcel. If your item is more valuable, you will want to make sure that you have the option to purchase additional coverage. The amount that you can receive coverage up to may differ from company to company.
